This small traditional Tibetan chest has been hand made and painted at our workshop in Nepal by skilled artisans specializing in woodwork and painting. It is ideal for use as a decorative piece or jewellery box. This chest contains traditional Tibetan motifs featuring the mystical phoenix, lotus and Double Vajra on the top.
The phoenix often appears in traditional Tibetan art forms, and rugs in particular. Well known for its ability to die in its own flames and then rise out of the ashes, the phoenix stands for immortality.
The lotus holds great importance in Buddhist philosophy and signifies one's ability to rise above the murk and achieve enlightenment. The lotus is also the pedestal that many Buddhist deities are seated on.
The Vajra is a sacred object associated with Tibetan Buddhism and accompanies the bell during various rituals. In Sanskrit, it translates to both 'diamond' and 'thunderbolt'. Like a diamond, the vajra is indestructible but destroys ignorance and hindrances. Like the thunderbolt, it is swift and cuts through one's faults.
This chest is perfect for adding some colour to home. It can also be used as a spiritual safe to hold your most precious dharma items and precious documents, memories and jewellery.
