Small Wooden Chest in Traditional Tibetan Design

This small trapezoid Tibetan chest has been hand made and painted at our workshop in Nepal by skilled artisans specializing in woodwork. It is ideal for use as a decorative piece or jewellery box. This chest contains traditional Tibetan motifs featuring the conch, lotus flower, precious jewels, endless knots (part of the 8 auspicious symbols) and clouds.

A jewel is considered important in Buddhist philosophy as it has the ability to grant whatever one wishes. The three jewels for taking refuge are the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha and offer a complete path to enlightenment. By following the three jewels, one can protect themselves from fear, ignorance and suffering. The flaming jewel is also carried by the windhorse featured on Tibetan prayer flags.

The endless/infinity knot is one of the most important Buddhist icons and has various meanings assigned to it. As an example, the intertwining of knots indicate Samsara and the endless cycle of suffering birth, death and rebirth. It also indicates the interdependent nature of all sentient beings on this planet.

The conch represents the spread of the Dharma and its ability to reach all sentient beings far and wide.

The lotus holds great importance in Buddhist philosophy and signifies one's ability to rise above the murk and achieve enlightenment. The lotus is also the pedestal that many Buddhist deities are seated on.

This chest is perfect for adding some colour to home. It can also be used as a spiritual safe to hold your most precious dharma items and precious documents, memories and jewellery.
