Khatas are ceremonial scarves used to honour people according to Tibetan tradition. They are commonly used as an offering to Lamas, deities and also gifted to friends, relatives and loved ones. Whilst most khatas are usually white in colour, they also come in four other colours which symbolise the five elements. Blue represents the sky. It is also commonly used in Mongolia, where they are tied to rocks, trees and various sacred sites.
