The Kartika is a crescent shaped ritual knife used in various tantric ceremonies in Vajrayana Buddhism. It is commonly seen in the hands of enlightened Dakinis such as Vajrayogini who holds it in her right hand, along with a skull cup in her left.
The Kartika symbolises one’s commitment to cut through obstructions (such as pride, lack of faith, inattention) in their spiritual journey.
