Originating in the Himalayan region, Naga or pedestal singing bowls are made up of two distinct parts: one is the usual round singing bowl whilst the other is the stand that the bowl has been fixed to. These bowls do not feature much inscriptions or artwork, and were probably used during shamanic rituals and ceremonies.
This small pedestal/chalice bowl was recently acquired from a collection of old, museum quality singing bowls. The bowl sounds best when struck, although it can also be played by rubbing a felt mallet.
