Wisdom Eyes and Compassion Mantra Thangka Pendant
Wisdom Eyes and Compassion Mantra Thangka Pendant
This beautiful thangka pendant features the Buddha's Wisdom Eyes surrounded by the compassion mantra in a floral pattern.
The Wisdom Eyes, also known as Buddha Eyes, are a prominent symbol in Tibetan Buddhism, often seen on stupas and shrines (such as the World Heritage listed Swoyumbu or Boudhanath stupas). These eyes are depicted on all four sides of the stupa, symbolizing the omniscience of the Buddha, who sees all things in all directions. The eyes are half-closed, representing a state of meditation and spiritual insight. Between the eyes, where the nose would be, is a curly symbol resembling a question mark, which is the Nepali character for the number one, symbolizing unity and the one path to enlightenment through the Buddha’s teachings. Above the eyes is a third eye, symbolizing the Buddha’s all-seeing wisdom and spiritual awakening.
Om mani padme hum, a six-syllable Sanskrit mantra, resonates deeply within Tibetan Buddhism. It embodies the essence of compassion, linked to the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, known for their unwavering empathy. Each syllable carries symbolic weight. "Om" represents the ultimate reality, "mani" signifies a jewel, and "padme" translates to lotus flower, symbolizing the potential for transformation and purity. "Hum" signifies the indivisible union of method and wisdom, crucial for achieving enlightenment.
